Chile has an enormous solar energy potential. KRAFTWERK Renewable Power Solutions and KRAFTWERK Chile planned and constructed the first grid-connected photovoltaic power plant in the Atacama region. In a first step a Pe-Investment Study had to show profitability. And it did! Therefore a Chilean fruit company decided to go ahead towards carbon-free production of grapes in the valley of Copiapó. In a first implementation step we installed more than 300 kWp nominal power within 4 weeks. More than 90% of the generated solar electricty are used for irrigating the fields. The excess solar electricity is injected into the grid and remunerated. In a next phase the PV plant is going to be extended on MW scale. Then, business focuses on selling the solar electricity.
